2013 United Land Former MVP in Ruiz

After spending the past year few years playing with Mexico’s Veracruz and Guatemala’s Municipal, former MLS MVP Carlos Ruiz was acquired by D.C. United in the league's allocation process. The 33-year-old Guatemalan forward took the league’s top honors back in 2002, which was his first MLS Season. Then, he scored a league-leading 24 goals in the regular season to lead the Los Angeles Galaxy to the MLS Cup, where he scored the only golden goal in MLS Cup history. He last played in MLS for the Philadelphia Union in 2011, and the eight-year league veteran has also spent time with Toronto FC. The move will bring in a solid veteran presence in who should help United move past last year’s Conference Finals effort.

United has been busy making other moves this year as well, as the club added to its depth with a couple of exchanges with Chivas USA. United acquired right back James Riley, who started 30 of 32 games last year, from the Goats in return for a 2015 second round supplemental draft pick. D.C. also landed young striker Casey Townsend for a draft pick as well. The 2013 D.C. United schedule has the team opening up the season on the road against the Houston Dynamo on March 2nd, and then they’ll come home to RFK Stadium to take on Real Salt Lake on March 9th. From there, United will play a hoard of tough early-season matchups, as they’ll face the New York Red Bulls (3/16), Columbus Crew (3/23), and Sporting Kansas City (4/5). Make sure to get your 2013 D.C. United tickets now to experience the action live on the pitch.
