Format Changes to MLS Playoffs in 2012
Soccer fans buying 2012 MLS playoff tickets will be in for a few changes this year as the league has retooled its postseason format in the offseason. For the second year in the row, the playoffs will include 10 teams. This year, the top 5 teams from the Eastern and Western Conference will qualify for the tournament. The top 3 teams in each conference will receive a bye to the Conference Semifinals while the fourth and fifth place teams in each conference will play a single-elimination Wildcard match where the winner will earn the right to play the conference’s top seed in the Conference Semifinals. Another change fans are very happy about is MLS’ move to allow the higher seeded team to host MLS Cup this year.
