2013 Revolution Draft Farrell at No. 1 Overall

When the New England Revolution contacted Toronto FC about obtaining the rights to the No. 1 overall draft pick, odds are strong that they already had their man in mind. And when the trade was accepted that sent the fourth pick and allocation money to Toronto, the Revolution took no time in snagging Louisville Cardinals standout Andrew Farrell. The 20-year-old defenseman was the anchor of the Cardinals' defense, and his strong play earned him NSCAA first-team All-American honors as a junior. One of the most impressive aspects of the 5-foot-11 star was his ability to adapt. After his sophomore year, Farrell shifted from midfield to the back line and helped his team by allowing a measly 0.62 goals per game. In his phenomenal, three-year career at Louisville, Farrell started all 44 games in which he appeared, and earned Big East Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2012.

As a collegiate, Farrell scored six goals and tallied six assists in three years, and as a pro he is projected to man the central or right back spot on the defense. Revolution fans will get their first look at the young player soon, as the 2013 Revolution schedule has the team beginning the season in style by playing the Chicago Fire on March 9th. New England will then make their first home appearance at Gillette Stadium on March 23rd against Sporting Kansas City. Thankfully for fans, the early season will see many of Major League Soccer’s best teams go head-to-head with the Revolution, including FC Dallas (3/30), Seattle Sounders (4/13), and the New York Red Bulls (4/20). Be sure to get your 2013 New England Revolution tickets today to witness Farrell from day one.
