Le Toux Returns to Lead the 2013 Union

When manager John Hackworth took the reins of the Philadelphia Union in 2012, he knew that there was a void on his team that could only be filled by one player. And in a trade with the New York Red Bulls, which sent Costa Rican forward Josue Martinez and allocation money to the Big Apple, Hackworth brought back Sebastien Le Toux. Former Head Coach Piotr Nowak sent the 28-year-old forward packing in 2012, but Hackworth knew his team missed their leader. Le Toux stands as Philadelphia’s all-time leading goal scorer, with 25 goals in 62 total appearances, and in back-to-back seasons, the Frenchman led the Union in overall scoring. He also played a huge part in Philly’s playoff run back in 2011, netting the club’s only playoff goal, which came in the first leg of the 2011 MLS Eastern Conference semis against the Houston Dynamo.

With Le Toux back on the club, the Union should be able to finish better than 8th place in Eastern Conference and improve upon their 10-18-6 record. His ability to stretch defenses should open space for Conor Casey and Jack McInerney to score more often as well. The 2013 Union schedule has the team starting up the season at PPL Park against Sporting Kansas City on March 2nd, and from there they will face a bruising list of opponents in the early part of the season. On tap for Philadelphia include games against the New York Red Bulls (3/30), Columbus Crew (4/6), and DC United (4/21). Be sure to get your hands on 2013 Philadelphia Union tickets today and watch as Le Toux makes his triumphant return the City of Brotherly Love.
