About the UAW-GM 500

The UAW-GM 500 is the former name for the Bank of America 500 race. It is a NASCAR 400-mile race of 334. It is held at Lowe's Motor Speedway in the United States. The race takes place in October. It was started in 1960. Initially the Bank of America 500 was a 400-mile race and was known as the National 400. Then in 1966 the race was turned into a 500-mile one. The Bank of America 500 race had also such names: the NAPA National 500 (1977-1979), the Miller High Life 500 (1983-1985), the Oakwood Homes 500 (1986-1988), the All Pro Auto Parts 500 (1989)the Mello Yello 500 (1995-2005).

The most recent Bank of America 500 race was scored by a young racer Kasey Kahne, who had just started his career in the Nextel Cup of the NASCAR series . It was an astonishing race. At Lowe's Motor Speedway Kahne beat an experienced and titled Jimmie Johnson.

Finally, he scored the 10th place and all this gave him an opportunity to make the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup. Then Kahne showed stable results, he almost always reached the finish in the leading group. So by the end of the season he had gained quite good scores and consequently finished the season with the 8th result in the NASCAR Nextel Cup.
