New Jersey Nets 2005-2006

The recent 2005-2006 season the New Jersey Nets started “slowly”, struggling to a 9-12 record in their first 21 games. However, thanks to the awesome play by Carter, Kidd, and Jefferson the team won the next 10 games (the final eight games in December and first two games in January) to rise to the top of the division. After a quite long winning streak, the New Jersey Nets returned to the earlier ordinary play (winning only thirteen of their next twenty-nine games). However, starting on March 12, the New Jersey Nets won their next fourteen games in a row, which became the longest winning streak in the 2005-2006 NBA season, and repeated the franchise record set of 2004. The wins ended with the New Jersey Nets loss to the Cavaliers on April 8, 2006 (108-102).

The New Jersey Nets finished the 2005-06 season with a new 49-33 record. They won their fourth Atlantic Division championship in the last 5 seasons, and finished the third in the Eastern Conference playoffs. In the first round of the 2006 NBA Playoffs the team defeated the Indiana Pacers, and thus, advanced to the second round where they played with the Heat, who defeated the New Jersey Nets in 2005's first round of the Eastern Conference tournament. Vince Carted was elevated to a starting position after Jermaine O’Neal was injured. A new red alternate jersey will be introduced by the New Jersey Nets for the 2006-07 season (from 2000 their alternate jersey was grey).

It is a well-known fact that Jay-Z is a part owner of the franchise. Recently, he chose the song "Going Hard" by M Bars to be the new theme song for the New Jersey Nets. It was first performed in April during the New Jersey Nets' last home game with the New York Knicks.

Several New Jersey Nets Players were awarded with honorable titles. Jason Kidd, for instance, was named the 2005 - 2006 NBA All-Defensive First Team; Lawrence Frank became the NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month (March of 2006); Nenad Krstic was named the NBA T-Mobile Rookie Challenge Sophomore team. Vince Carter became the champion in the number of titles received: the NBA Eastern Conference All Star Reserve, the NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month (December of 2005), the NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week (December 19 – 25 of 2005), the NBA.com's Innovative Player of the Month (December of 2005), and the NBA Community Assist Award ( in July 2005).
