Suns Looking Strong in 2006

In 2007 season, the Phoenix Suns will try to come back to the Western Conference Finals, from where they were eliminated in six games by Dallas in the previous season.

The Suns signed a two-year contract with Eric Piatkowski. When during the 2006 playoffs Tim Thomas became a cult hero of the Suns because of his stunning performance, he decided to sign a deal with Phoenix rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers. Later, the team signed Markus Banks from the Minnesota Timberwolves to a five-year deal worth about $21 million. The Suns also hired Sean Marks, Leandro Barbosa (a five-year contract extension worth approx. $33 million beginning from the 2007-2008 season) , and Jumaine Jones.

The season looks quite promising for Phoenix, partially because of the return of Amare Stoudemire. The team opened the regular season with the 114-106 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, Leandro Barbosa ended the match with a career-high 30 points. During the following game, the Suns managed to defeat the Los Angeles Clippers (112-104). Shawn Marion added 27 points and 10 rebounds, Steve Nash scored 20 points and 11 assists, and Amaré Stoudemire added fifteen points in 24 minutes. On December 19, 2006, Phoenix made franchise history with their fifteenth straight win (115-98 win over the Toronto Raptors).

On January 7, 2007, the Suns beat the Golden State Warriors with an overwhelming score 128-105. James Jones added 25 points giving Phoenix their sixth win in a row. Leandro Barbosa added 26 points, and Shawn Marion scored 24 points and 17 rebounds. It was the Phoenix Suns’ 22nd victory in the last 24 games.
