Raptors Acquire Rudy Gay, Continue Quest for Postseason Spot
While most big moves are made in the offseason, one rather notable trade occurred midway through the 2012-13 Toronto Raptors schedule and involved the Memphis Grizzlies sending Rudy Gay to Toronto to join the core contingent of DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry, and Amir Johnson. In 42 games with the Grizzlies this season, Gay averaged 17.2 points per game, along with 5.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists. The move couldn’t have come at a better time for the injury-riddled Raptors, who lost regular contributor Jonas Valanciunas to a broken finger late in December, and overall, have struggled to maintain consistency. Lowry’s status has been questionable at times, but when healthy, he is capable of producing 13.5 points a game, 5.8 assists, and 4.6 rebounds.
