Spotting most of the major college basketball programs about a 50-year head start, the Florida State Seminoles basketball program has accomplished more in its 50-plus years of existence than some other teams’ programs have in 100 years. They’ve done it all. They’ve won their conference. They’ve made it to the NCAA Tournament. They’ve made Sweet Sixteen; Elite Eight; Final Four; and even to the Championship Game. But, they have yet to win the tournament. However, since moving to the ACC Conference in 1991 the Seminoles have been on a slow decline of quality, their last NCAA appearance being 1998. Though they lost some valuable senior veterans from last year, head coach (and former coach of Washington Wizards) Leonard Hamilton has youth as team strength. The team roster is filled with young legs, with only 3 seniors and 1 junior. The rest is a mélange of freshman/sophomore. What this means for Hamilton is that this upcoming year, although he hopes to be very competitive, can also serve as a building year.
