2009 Central Michigan Chippewas Season Information

The Chippewas are the NCAA Division 1-A football team of the Central Michigan University. They are members of the Mid-American Conference as part of the West Division. The Central Michigan Chippewas have their home ground as the Kelly/Shorts Stadium, formerly known as the Perry Shorts Stadium, which is a stadium in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. They had their first season as an NCAA College Division Independent team in 1896. Their current head coach is Butch Jones. The 2008 season was important for the Chippewas as they were invited to the Motor City Bowl in Detroit, Michigan where they were defeated by Purdue University. They also won the Mid-American conference championship twice in a row, their last such feat being in the 1979-80 seasons.

They have produced many famous players including Kent Smith, Eric Ghiaciuc, Tory Humphrey and Cullen Jenkins. For the Chippewas 2009 season they are slated to play Eastern Illinois in the opening game on August 28, 2008. They have 12 games in the season and they end the season by taking on Eastern Michigan on the 28th of November. They are all set to grab their third consecutive win of the conference championship and go in as strong contenders.
