The new school year is underway and Georgetown sports teams are fired up. Both the Hoyas football and men's basketball teams have been anxiously awaiting the start of the new season and have reached their boiling point. Now that the new season is here, both teams are ready to pounce on the competition and reestablish themselves as the top contenders in each respective sport. The Georgetown Hoyas basketball team is one of the perennial powerhouse programs in the entire NCAA. Ever since Patrick Ewing put them on the map in the mid-80s with three NCAA Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1984, the Hoyas have attracted and produced some of the finest basketball talent. From that point on, the Hoyas have not looked back either. While they haven't won another National Title, the Hoyas are constantly a threat (and often champions) in the NCAA Big East Conference. The blue and gray clad Hoyas are masters of a "tweaked" Princeton offense that employs a methodical, cerebral style of play and will wear down their opponents with tactical ball movement rather than all-out physical play. This upcoming season, watch for the Hoyas to continue and further their success on the NCAA basketball courts. As for Georgetown Hoyas football, the football team has not enjoyed the national spotlight as much as the basketball team has. However, this only serves to motivate the forgotten football team. Rather than be content to stay in the shadows of the basketball program, the football players have put in extra hours in the off season to hit their divisional rivals hard and hit them often. The Hoyas football team has gained some valuable speed, strength, endurance and experience since last year and is going to exploit it against their opponents.
