The pride of Illinois returns this year when the Illinois Fighting Illini sports teams take the nation by storm. The University of Illinois is one of those schools that attracts the best sports players in every sport they offer, and football and basketball are the two sports that best drive this point home. Every year the football and basketball programs return with the uncanny ability to improve, even when it seems like they had reached their pinnacle the previous year. Illinois Fighting Illini football is one of the premiere teams not only in the Midwestern United States, but also one of the best in the nation overall. Every year they emerge as a threat to the Big 10 Conference title (with 15 championships at this point). In the past, they have won 6 big bowl games and 4 National Championships, and this year they want to continue their success. As a team that takes pride in hard-nosed play and determination (see alumni like Dick Butkus for reference), the Illini believe they have what it takes to not only take the Big 10 Title again, but to shoot for the National Championship as well. Throughout the end of the 1990s and so far into the 2000s, the Fighting Illini have won multiple Conference Season Titles and Conference Tournament Titles. They have also had great success in the NCAA Final Four Tournament. Under the current coaching of Bruce Weber, team play and unity have never been more stressed.
