Taking the team motto "Every Man a Tiger" to heart, every Memphis sports player plays with immeasurable amounts of tenacity, strength, courage, and skill. This is especially evident in the play of the most recent generations of collegiate stars at Memphis University. Starting with the rough and tumble Memphis football team, the Tigers have been on a consistent upgrade in quality play as of recent years that rivals their historic 1922 team (a team that scored 174 points and allowed only 29). From 2003-2007, the Tigers Football program has competed in four bowl games, including the victory at 2005's Motor City Bowl with now NFL Panthers star DeAngelo Williams. They aren't showing any signs of slowing down either. The new roster this year looks just as formidable as any Tigers team has ever looked. Woe is the opponent that faces the Memphis Tigers football team this year. If the Tigers football team is the meat, then the basketball squad is definitely the potatoes. In the last three seasons of college basketball, the Memphis Tigers squad has consistently displayed their prowess, perhaps more so than any other national program. From 2006-2008, the Tigers have won 106 games and only lost 9 and have made it to the Elite Eight every year. In the 2007-2008 season, Memphis reached the NCAA Championship game only to lose a close match to the University of Kansas. There is no doubt to the pertinacity of the Memphis Tigers and they will want to definitely prove that this year by claiming NCAA championship glory.
