About the Big 12 Tournament

The Big 12 is divided into Big 12 North and Big 12 South teams. To the former group belong the following six teams: Colorado Buffaloes, Kansas Jayhawks, Missouri Tigers, Iowa State Cyclones, Kansas State Wildcats, and Nebraska Cornhuskers. To the Big 12 South belong Baylor Bears, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Tech Red Riders, Texas A&M Aggies, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Texas Longhorns.

The Big 12 Conference is the sponsor of the championships in many sports: Basketball, football, baseball, cross-country, soccer, gymnastics, golf, swimming and diving, softball, track and field, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling.

The rankings in the Big 12 Conference are combined; they are not split among the divisions. Though, the schedule of basketball games is made up in the way as if they were in fact split up. Teams usually play with other teams from the same division, and only one game is played with a team from the opposite division. In all, there are sixteen conference games. Thus, such structure does not allow Oklahoma and Oklahoma State play with Kansas, their long time power rivals, but doesnt deny other old rivals to play home-and-home games.

The champions of the Big 12 Conference were Kansas (1997, 1998, 1999, and 2006), Iowa State (2000), Oklahoma (2001, 2002, and 2003), and Oklahoma State (2004 and 2005). Mens basketball teams, which participate in the Big 12 Conference, are four-time national champions: 1945 and 1946 Oklahoma State, and in 1952 and 1988 Kansas. Womens basketball teams won the National Championship thrice: Texas in 1986, Texas Tech in 1993, and Baylor in 2005.

There are several sports facilities, which are used for playing conference games. Basketball games are held in the Ferrell Center (Baylor), the Coors Events Center (Colorado), the Hilton Coliseum (Iowa State), the Allen Fieldhouse (Kansas), the Bramlage Coliseum (Kansas State), the Mizzou Arena (Missouri), the Bob Devaney Sports Center (Nebraska), the Lloyd Noble Center (Oklahoma), the Gallagher-Iba Arena (Oklahoma State), the Frank Erwin Center (Texas), the Reed Arena (Texas A&M), and the United Spirit Arena (Texas Tech).
