Verizon Center Selected to Host 2013 NCAA Tournament East Regional
For the second time in three years, the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., will be busy with postseason college basketball action, as the venue will host 2013 NCAA Tournament East Regional matchups, March 28 and 30, with Georgetown serving as the host school. Despite being given hosting duties, even if the Hoyas earn a top seed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, they will not be permitted to be contend in the east region, removing their chances for a home-court advantage.
Over the years, there have been plenty of memorable NCAA Tournament games played in the nation’s capital. When the 2006 NCAA Tournament East Regional was last held at the Verizon Center, George Mason provided the country with the perfect Cinderella story by punching its ticket to the Final Four in a stunning win over the top-seeded Connecticut Huskies. In a great redemption story, UConn went on to use the Verizon Center as a launching pad for its 2011 championship run. NCAA East Regional tickets are available by individual session, or you can purchase tickets for all sessions. Be sure to check out East Regional action before the 2013 Final Four kicks off on April 6 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
