Record Crowds Expected for 2014 Final Four at AT&T Stadium
For the first time since 1986, the greater Dallas area will play host to college basketball’s grand finale, as AT&T Stadium (formerly Cowboys Stadium) in Arlington, Texas, will serve as the host site for the 2014 Final Four, April 5 and 7. As the permanent home for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, the venue boasts a generous capacity of roughly 80,000, leading many to speculate that the forthcoming Final Four will shatter previous attendance records this spring. Another Texas venue already holds the national semifinal game record of 75,421, set during the 2011 Final Four at Houston’s Reliant Stadium, while the championship game record of 74,326 was established this past season at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
One of the participating teams helping to contribute to the record, the Louisville Cardinals, enters the 2013-14 college basketball season as the reigning national champs, and also, incidentally, captured the NCAA title the last time the Dallas area hosted the Final Four. Despite being the team to beat, it was bitter rival Kentucky that opened in the top slot in the USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll. Michigan State followed in second, followed by Louisville at No. 3, with Duke (No. 4) and Arizona (No. 5) rounding out the top five. No matter the teams involved, the Big Dance is always jam-packed with excitement, so begin your planning early with 2014 Final Four tickets on sale now at Vivid Seats.
