LSU Tigers Background Information

The LSU Tigers is the men's basketball team that plays in the West division of the Southeastern Conference. The teams colors are purple and gold. At present the LSU Tigers are coached by John Brady. He replaced the legendary Dale Brown and became the head coach at LSU in 1997. At the time when Brady came, the program was still being probated and stinging from a scandal concerning recruiting. The first two years he spent with the team were rather difficult, but the LSU Tigers managed to break through in 2000 when they posted a 28-6 record as well as a NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance. Still the team was not able to carry their success to the next year and actually went 13-16 in 2001. This failure was mainly justified by the fact that the team lost of Stromile Swift and Jabari Smith to the 2000 NBA Draft that year.

They won the games with Iona and Texas A&M, and after that defeated the #2 seed Texas and #1 seed Duke and for the first time since 1986 they appeared in the Final Four. The 2006 Final Four that took place at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana, was the first one held since 1980 with no #1 seeds (Neither LSU nor UCLA, Florida and George Mason were the first ones). The LSU Tigers lost 59-45 when they were unable to solve UCLA's defense. However, despite this loss, the season is considered to be one of the most successful in the history of the LSU men's basketball.A 167-111 record belongs to the head coach of the LSU Tigers John Brady and the first includes four NCAA tournament appearances and two SEC Western division titles. At present John Brady is negotiating a contract extension as he plans to stay with the LSU Tigers.
