Las Vegas has been home to the Mountain West Tournament for eleven of the event’s fourteen years in existence, and thanks to a new agreement, it will remain that way for the foreseeable future. The 2013 Mountain West Tournament is set to take place from March 12th through the 16th at the Thomas & Mack Center, and the Mountain West Board of Directors made sure that this marvelous event stays where so many of its incredible memories have been made by approving a three-year extension through 2016. All nine teams in the conference will get the opportunity to battle for the chance to dance in March Madness, but the New Mexico Lobos, Colorado State Buffaloes, UNLV Rebels, and San Diego State Aztecs are looking like the teams to beat.
In last year’s tournament, New Mexico won it all by defeating San Diego State, 68-59. The win marked New Mexico’s second title overall, which puts them in a third place tie with the Utah Aggies and leaves them trailing only San Diego State (4) and UNLV (3). With his exemplary inside presence, Drew Gordon was named the tournament MVP by leading the Lobos from start to finish. An automatic bid into the 2013 NCAA Tournament is up for grabs, so this one should be as spectacular as always.
