Oregon Ducks Basketball News | ||
Ducks Basketball NewsMaybe as of lately when you hear the name Oregon Ducks you think of their impressive football squad and former Ducks QB Dennis Dixon, who is now part of the Pittsburgh Steelers. But the Ducks basketball program every bit as formidable as their football counterpart. In fact, it was the Oregon Ducks basketball team that was victorious in the first NCAA Basketball championship ever, held in 1939, against Ohio State. Since then the Ducks have always been a potential threat to the college basketball crown, making numerous tournament appearances, usually making it into Sweet Sixteen or Elite Eight status, as well as claiming numerous PAC- 10 Conference championships. Last year (2008 Final Four), the Ducks disappointedly bowed out in the first round of the tournament after a loss to number eight seed Mississippi State. This upcoming year, under the guidance of head coach Ernie Kent, who was just re-signed to a contract running through the end of the 2012-2013 season, the Ducks look to end the 70-year drought. Ernie Kent, whose longtime guidance has not gone unnoticed, will bring further stability to the already rock-solid Ducks program. In the past 11 years, Kent has guided the Ducks to five tournament appearances, two Elite Eight appearances, and two conference titles. If you’re a fan of the Oregon Ducks, this seems like a good year to make a trip out to the McArthur Court. Purchase your Ducks basketball tickets now and join to the Ducks as they attempt to end the seventy-year championship-less drought. |
