PAC 10 Tournament Information

Each year the PAC-10 Tournament collects the best squads in the PAC-10 Conference, and there is a possibility to see some of the most prominent college basketball teams play all together in one place. It is a four-day event filled with excitement, thrill and joy.

Only the best players from the Pacific Ten Conference (PAC-10) have a chance to take part in the college athletic competition, running in the western States. The Pacific Ten Conference participants also take part in the NCAA's Division I (Division I-A for football).

The history of the PAC-10 Conference started on December 15, 1915. On that day the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) was formed at a gathering at the Oregon Hotel in Portland, Oregon. Originally, the organization was comprised of 4 Universities: the University of California, the University of Oregon, the University of Washington, and Oregon State College.

The matches of the Pacific Coast Conference started in 1916. In 1917, Washington State College joined the Conference. Stanford University became a member in 1918.

In 1922, the PCC consisted of eight teams, having accepted the University of Southern California and the University of Idaho. The University of Montana became a member of the Conference in 1924, and in 1928, UCLA was added. The Pacific Coast Conference existed as a 10-team union until 1950, except the period from 1943 to 1945, when the World War II was raging. In 1950, Montana left the Conference for the Mountain States Conference, and the PCC existed as a nine-team Conference until 1958.

After the pay-for-play scandal at a number of PCC schools, the PCC was dismissed and the PAC-10 was organized on July 1, 1959 as the Athletic Association of Western Universities. California, Stanford, UCLA, USC and Washington Universities became its founding members. Other Universities became members of the Conference in the following years; the last one was Arizona in 1978, forming the PAC-10s present structure.
