ACC Men's Football Championship Background Information

This game initiated in 2005 owing to the 2004 league expansion. This expansion comprised former Big East members Miami, Boston College and Virginia Tech. With the inclusion of Boston College, ACC comprised of twelve teams and moreover it was allowed to hold conference championship game. The ACC championship game conventionally matches the winner of the Atlantic Coast Conference and Coastal and Atlantic divisions.

The game featured in Florida State in 2005 won over Virginia Tech, and in 2006 two more teams joined the game. In 2007 a contest was featured with one new team and one old team. The contest was between Virginia Tech and Boston College. It was a tough game for both the teams and resulted in the victory of Virginia Tech. The (ACC) Atlantic Coast Conference football championship game is the concluding game of the regular season of the college football game for this team. This year the game will be held in Tampa, Florida during the month of December and determine the championship. The frontrunner of this game will be honored to Bowl Championship Series (BCS) bid to be held next year at Dolphins stadium.

By the time Virginia Tech was declared victorious in 2007 championship, many cities but for Jacksonville came forward and presented their plans. The selection of cities was done based on the bids offered to the Acc and other member schools. Each city was given a two year contract. This way Tampa was selected for 2008. Actually, Charlotte has annual convention of Association for career and Technical Education during the same period. Owing to this, the game hosting was taken back to 2010 as they may face accommodation problems if both the events are held together in the same year.
