The Ball State Cardinals are members of the NCAA Mid-American Conference, and were champions in the 1976, 1978, 1989, 1993 and 1996 years. In the NCAA the teams compete in the following mens sports: basketball, golf, swimming, tennis, volleyball, baseball and football, and womens sports: the same kinds except beseball, as well as field hockey, gymnastics, track-and-field and cross-country. The first Cardinal team was formed in 1926.The current head coach of the team is Brady Hoke, while the mascot of the team is Charlie Cardinal. The Ball State Cardinals work out at the Scheumann Stadium.
