Up to the year 1982 it was known as the Tangerine Bowl and in 1983-2002 the game started being called Florida Citrus Bowl. The Capital One Bowl is considered to be one of the oldest of the (The Bowl Championship Series) bowls. Up to the year 1968 the famous game included matchups between schools in the South of the country, often featuring the champion known as the Ohio Valley Conference. The bowl featured the Atlantic Coast Conference Champion against at large rival in 1987-1991. At present the bowl is closely connected with the Big Ten Conference and the Southeastern Conference. In the year 2005 it had the biggest payout and is treated as one of the most prestigious bowl games among the non-BCS ones.
