2009 Houston Cougars Season Information

Art Briles was the pride of the Houston Cougars from 2003-2006, when he left Houston to join the Baylor Bears. Art Briles is one of those coaches that turns around teams that have sunk to new lows. This had happened to the Cougars under the not-so-watchful eye of Dana Dimel. Over three years, the Cougars had won only eight games. Briles brought about a new era for the Houston Cougars where they started to regain steam, but unfortunately he left the day after he was offered the Bears coaching job, and he took several recruits and coordinators with him. They had an interim coach in Chris Thurmond and then were handed over to Kevin Sumlin in December of 2007, former coordinator for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Sumlin was the first African-American head coach that the Cougars had brought on board. For the 2009 NCAA football season, Philip Hunt was named to the watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award. His sacks for 2007 were the best in the conference. The Cougars are looking for a stable team with great possibilities in the 2008 and 2009 football season. Fellow Houston Cougars can show their support by finding their Robertson Stadium seating chart at vividseats.com and purchase their tickets for this year’s new hope.
