The Pionner Las Vegas Bowl is a college football bowl game sanctioned by NCAA and being played every year since 1992. In fact, the game originated from the California Bowl, which was played from 1981 – 1991. One year later, the game was reorganized and relocated to Las Vegas, and thus changed its name for the Las Vegas Bowl.
Belonging to Division I-A, the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl features matchups of the Pac-10 and Mountain West conferences. Previous conference tie-ins include MAC and Big West. The bowl game is normally played at Sam Boyd Stadium (with a seating capacity of 40,000) in Las Vegas. During its long history, the Pioneer Las Begas Bowl has changed several names; for example, ES Sports in 1999, the SEGA Sports Las Vegas Bowl from 2001 to 2002, Pioneer Purevision Las Vegas Bowl in 2003-2006, and Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl up to now.
