LSU Hires Cameron as New Offensive Coordinator

After finishing 2012 at 85th in total offense, the LSU Tigers figured it was time to shake things up, so they hired veteran coach Cam Cameron to serve as the new offensive coordinator. Cameron spent years coaching alongside LSU head coach Les Miles at Michigan (1987-1993) and most recently as the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. Now, he’s expected to put the fight back into a Tigers offense that’s been less than dynamic the past few seasons, especially at QB. Junior QB Zach Mettenberger will be the starter under Cameron in 2013, and there will be an emphasis on the offense carrying more of the burden this season, as John Chavis’ defensive unit is returning only three of 10 starters. But thankfully for LSU, Les Miles has done another stellar job of recruiting and has the talent to fill in the gaps more than adequately.

The Tigers will take their first shot at contending for another BCS National Championship on Aug. 31, as the 2013 LSU football schedule has the team opening up at the fifth annual Cowboys Classic against the TCU Horned Frogs at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. LSU will make its first home appearance inside Tiger Stadium when the UAB Blazers head to Baton Rouge, La. (Sept. 7), and then Miles will prepare his squad for tough bouts against the Georgia Bulldogs (Sept. 28), Florida Gators (Oct. 12), and Ole Miss Rebels (Oct. 19). Despite the marquee games early on, the most coveted LSU football tickets are likely to be the squad’s matchups against the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide (Nov. 9) and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel’s Texas A&M Aggies (Nov. 23), as both games should have huge SEC Championship implications.
