The exit of four-year starting QB Landry Jones was a massive hit to the Oklahoma Sooners, but head coach Bob Stoops is one of the best in the nation at grooming talent to fill in the gaps, and the signs suggest that he’s found his man for 2013. Junior QB Blake Bell is expected to replace Jones as the starter, having gained plenty of experience last year serving as the go-to guy in goal line packages. Stoops is rarely one to name a starter in the spring, but with an eye on claiming another Big 12 Championship, Bell’s experience may be the difference-maker. The “Belldozer” rushed for 11 touchdowns in 2012, and with his standout performance in the spring game on April 13, he proved that he can do it with his arm as well, tossing two touchdowns and committing no turnovers. Ultimately, Stoops will be sure to get good looks at redshirt freshman QB Trevor Knight and sophomore QB Kendal Thompson, but the job is Bell’s to lose.

The 2013 Oklahoma Sooners football schedule will begin with a home contest at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks on Aug. 31. Afterwards, Oklahoma’s bid to repeat as Big 12 Champions will kick off with a tough matchup against Dana Holgorsen’s West Virginia Mountaineers on Sept. 7. As the season progresses, the Sooners can look forward to a trio of tough games against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (Sept. 28), TCU Horned Frogs (Oct. 5), and Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry game on Oct. 12. And of course, everyone sporting crimson and cream will be looking to get Oklahoma football tickets to witness the Bedlam Series against the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Dec. 7.
