Poinsettia Bowl Current Information

Currently sponsored by the San Diego County Credit Union, The Poinsettia Bowl is a post-season NCAA-sanctioned Division I-A college football bowl game that has been operated since 2005. The game was founded by the organizers of the Holiday Bowl, is held annually and uses Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA as its regular venue. The game’s conference tie-ins include Mountain West Conference and Mid-American Conference.

The game saw only two matchups throughout its not very long history. On December, 22, 2005, the Navy defeated Colorado State with the 51:30 score. The 2006 matchup featured Texas Christian University (TCU) in the struggle against Northern Illinois and finished with the TCU 37:7 victory. As a result of Navy’s win over North Texas, a game that set a new NCAA record for most points scored in a college football game, Navy will be playing again in the 2007 Poinsettia Bowl, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, December, 20. The event will be held at Qualcomm Stadium and will feature a team from the Mountain West Conference against Navy or an at-large opponent . The list of possible Navy’s opponents in the 2007 Poinsettia Bowl include BYU, Utah, New Mexico, and SDSU.
