Clowney Ready to Exceed Expectations in 2012

There was plenty of hype surrounding former consensus High School Player of the Year, DT Jadeveon Clowney, in his first year with the Gamecocks, and by most standards, he played great. Clowney, an athlete who weighs close to 270 pounds and runs a nearly 4.5 forty, ranked second on South Carolina in tackles for loss (12) and sacks (eight) and tied for sixth in the country with five forced fumbles. His stats were good enough to secure National Freshman of the Year honors, but Clowney predicts that he can be a lot better in 2012.

This year, defensive line coach Brad Lawing is impressed with Clowney’s accuracy in drawing up his assignments on the board. Head coach Steve Spurrier says that the offensive line can't block Clowney anymore, and he has even half-jokingly encouraged his offensive linemen to hold him. It looks like USC fans are in for a special year.
