In 2015, the 81st annual Sugar Bowl will take a year off from its traditional postseason hosting duties to instead participate in the first-ever College Football Playoff. In conjunction with the new BCS-replacing format, four teams will compete in two separate semifinal games on Jan. 1 with the Sugar Bowl (Mercedes-Benz Superdome) and Rose Bowl (Rose Bowl Stadium) on tap as the designated bowls for the inaugural installment. From there, the winning teams will then advance to the College Football Championship game at AT&T Stadium on Jan. 12. While national rankings will help give fans an idea of the top teams throughout the season, the final decision will ultimately be made by a qualified selection committee that will reportedly use a variety of factors to determine the initial semifinal matchups.
