San Francisco 49ers News

About the San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco fans are exited about 2004, with a new starting quarterback and running back taking the helm. With his first season as a full-fledged starter and after three years in the making, the explosive Kevan Barlow is ready to make his mark as one of the top backs in the NFL. His rare combination of power, speed, and quickness to the hole gives ticket holders in the bay area much to be exited about. Tim Rattay is also coming into his first year as a starter. Rattay has all of the intangibles that are required at the quarterback position. In his three starts in 2003 Rattay threw for seven touchdowns with only two interceptions, and likes to spread the ball to all of his receivers which should soften the blow of the Terrell Owens loss in the off season.

On defense the 49ers look as solid as ever. Tony Parrish heads of the d-unit as one of the best safeties in the league. Parrish has deep cover abilities, leadership skills and a nose for making hard, turnover causing tackles. Up front Linebacker Julian Peterson has emerged as one of the most athletic and aware Mike Linebackers in the NFL. Whether its shedding blocks up the middle, chasing plays to the outside, or dropping back into pass coverage teams will have a tough time game planning against his multi-dimensional defensive skills.

3Com  Park - San Francisco, CA

3Com Park  has been a staple of the Bay area landscape for over 40 years. Originally constructed for the San Francisco Giants, the 49ers have called it home for the better part of this century. Its baseball dirt infield is sometimes unforgiving on tackles but offers a fast surface for ball carriers. The 60,000-seat stadium is home the great 49ers dynasty of the 80s, and possibly the greatest quarterback to play the gameJoe Montana. Despite their slump in the past three years, the 49ers hope that the sell-out crowds will help them turn it all around.
