On November 13, 2006, head coach Gerard Gallant left the team. The following day, Gary Agnew became his interim replacement. On November 22, Ken Hitchcock became the new Columbus Blue Jackets head coach. He was former coach of the Dallas Stars and Philadelphia Flyers.

On December 10, 2006, the Columbus Blue Jackets scored a new team record – 5 power-play goals against the Ottawa Senators in a 6-2 victory.

The Columbus Dispatch announced that the Blue Jackets would replace their present primary "CBJ" logo with a new one. The change is going to take place at the beginning of the following 2007-2008 season. It will be applied to both the home and away jerseys.

The recent two games were victorious for the Columbus Blue Jackets. On January 30, the team defeated the rivals with 3-2, and on January 27, they beat Minnesota. On January 31, the Blue Jackets are playing with Edmonton.
