Dallas Stars Information

The Dallas Stars are an ice hockey team from Dallas, Texas playing in the National Hockey League (NHL). Their nickname was shortened from the original name North Stars for the Minnesota State motto to Stars after moving to Dallas. And it is a well known fact that Texas often refers the Lone Star State. The logo of the team is a Green Stars with a gold color outline with Stars that are written above the star tip that forms the letter A. As far as above Stars Dallas is concerned it is written in green. The colors of the Dallas Stars are green, gold and black.

On the 5th of October, 1993 the State of Texas finally had its own NHL team. This happened suddenly after years of Minor League Hockey and the WHA's Houston Aeros. On that day the Dallas Stars managed to beat the Detroit Red Wings with the score 6-4. The team had quite a solid first season in Dallas. Mike Modano scored 50 goals playing for the team and that helped to finish in the Central Division with the 3rd place.

The season 1994/195 was delayed by a lockout that lasted for 4 months. At last when the season for the Dallas Stars began they struggled and posted a record of 17-23-8. The years 1995 and 1996 were quite disappointing for the team as they finished in last place. The next seasons were full of triumphs and failures. In the season 1999/2000 the Dallas Stars were still one of the top ice hockey teams posting a record of 43-29-10-6 for their 4th straight division title. It was the time when goalie Eddie Belfour struggled through one of the most difficult seasons and faced the prospect of Free Agency when a decision was made to move into the brand new American Airlines Center. Due to this fact the Dallas Stars got off to a slow start. The decision to fire the coach Ken Hitchcock followed. However, the appearance of the new coach, Rick Wilson, didnt improve the situation and the team continued to play catch up. In the season 2002/2003 the Dallas Stars dreamt of a return trip to the Finals of Stanley Cup however these dreams ended in heartbreak fashion when the Ducks broke a 3-3 tie with 1:06 left in Game 6. In 2003 the team got off to a shaky start when the players showed the hockey that could be called mediocre. The Stars spent lots of time trying to find their game. The season 2004/2005 was cancelled due to the lock out.

In June, 2006 the Dallas Stars announced their decision to buy out the $6.5-million contract of right-winger Bill Guerin. That was done with the intention to clear room under the salary cap that was brand-new. The stars had to bid farewell to such players as Jason Arnott and Willie Mitchell. The club traded Niko Kapanen. So, in general lots of changes took place in the team that time. On the 23rd of October the team met with the Vancouver Canucks and the Stars manged to win with the score 2-1.
