On October 26, 2006, the team placed forward Todd Bertuzzi on IR. On December 7, Joe Nieuwendyk announced his retirement. On December 23, forward Juraj Kolnik was taken off IR and placed on active roster. A couple of days later, the team placed Stephen Weiss on IR retroactive to 12/12, and later on the team’s active roster. In 2007 the transactions continued. On January 3, defenseman Ric Jackman was traded to the Anaheim Ducks for a conditional pick in the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft. The following day Gary Roberts was placed on IR. The current team captain is Olli Jokinen.

Presently, the Florida Panthers are fourth in their division with 14-9-3 at home and 6-14-7 on the road and 50 points.
