Ottawa Senators Hockey

The Ottawa Senators, the Sens, is a young NHL team, representing Ottawa, Ontario. It appeared on ice only in 1992, though, in fact, in 1901-1934 it was exactly successful Ottawa Sentors, who managed to win 10 Stanley Cups during their existance. But then they moved to St. Louis, where they played as the St. Louis Eagles but didnt manage to keep their heads above water.

Now the Ottawa Senators is a different team, playing in the Northeast division, which tries to make its way in the NHL. Its logo depicts a Roman legionnaire, painted in the teams official colors: red, black, white and gold.

The new Ottawa Senators appeared in 1992 and almost at the very beginning was confronted with financial difficulties.

In 1992-1993 the Ottawa Senators had the glorious victories over the Montreal Canadiens and the Habs in their first games. The other games turned out to be a real disaster the team had 70 losses out of 84 games.

In 1993 Bruce Firestone, the teams President, handed in his notice because he couldnt cope with its financial problems. He was replaced by Rod Bryden.

A turn for the better was outlined when a new coach Jacques Martin came. In 1997 the Sens reached their first playoffs. The following season the team scored their first victory in the playoff games over the New Jersey Devils, but then were easily swept by the Washington Capitals.

1999-2000 season the Senators had some problems with Alexei Yashin, who held out for the whole season. The Sens made the playoffs again and again they were swept inthe first round.

In 2001-2002 everything repeated again when the team was easily stopped in the playoff series by the Maple Leafs.

In 2002-2003 the Sens gained a victory and won the Presidents Trophy though they had a lot of financial problems to interfere their success.

In 2003 magnate Eugene Melnik bought the team. And in 2004 the Sens lost their starting playoff series again, so their coach Jackues Martin was given the sack.

The next year the Senators had some changes they sold away such players as Marian Hossa, Greg de Vries and some others. In 2006 they achieved success and showed outstanding hockey playing and stability. Antoine Vermette, Mark Fisher, Jason Spezza and others were noticable for their top-level playing. Though again the team didnt manage to get to the top and win the Stanley Cup.

The Senators have great plans for future, theyve set the goal in any case to win the Stanley Cup.
