The Phoenix Coyotes are an NHL team, representing Glendale, Arizona. They play in the Pacific division. Their franchise began in the WHA as the Winnipeg Jets in 1972 and 24 years later they moved to Arizona and began to play under the new name of Phoenix Coyotes.

When the team played in the WHA it had great success and was considered the best team of WHA. The Jets reached its final playoffs five times out of seven possible, scored the victory in the leagues championship and three times gained Avco World Trophies. And finally in 1979 the team appeared in the NHL.

Nevertheless, after the gloriuos winnings in the WHA the Winnipeg Jets couldnt achieve success in the NHL even of a bit resemblance to that they gained in the WHA. After moving to Arizona the Coyotes made some new acquisitions and among which was a young star-player Jeremy Roenick, who joined Keith Tkachuk and Rick Tocchet (together they made very effective 1-2-3 play-scheme, which helped the Coyotes not flop during their first Arizona seasons).

The Phoenix Coyotes have never reached the Stanley Cup Finals and the greatest success they scored was only in 1999. In 2002 the Coyotes were doomed to failure because of the continuois instability and constant financial problems. They lagged behind the others and had one of the worst results.

In 2005 the Coyotes took on the new coach Wayne Gretzky instead of the previous Rick Bowness and acquired star-player Brett Hull.

In 2006 the Phoenix Coyotes remained the only NHL team, which didnt manage to win the Stanley Cup.
