The St. Louis Blues professional hockey team from St. Louis, Missouri was founded in 1967.
The team entered the NHL in 1967 during its expansion. They were first owned by an insurance tycoon by the name of Sid Salmon. During the St. Louis Blues first years they took a shot at the Stanley Cup three unsuccessful times. The first two games were lost to the Montreal Canadiens (1969 and 1970) and the final effort was lost to the Boston Bruins (1970). That year Gord Berenson won the Lady Bying Trophy fort the St. Louis Tunes. Their first game was played at an old St. Louis Arena. By 1970 the St Louis Blues games became one of the most attended events and the tickets were almost always sold out.
The 1970s were less successful for the St. Louis Blues. In 1974 the team missed the playoffs for the first time. In 1977 they won the division title missing the playoffs of the two following seasons. Meanwhile the blues appeared to be on the brink of bankruptcy due to some bad financial steps. Finally salmon sold the St. Louis Blues in 1977 to Ralston Purina. In 1981 the Blues became the second-best team in the NHL regular season.
1983 St. Louis Blues were resold to Bill Hunter who was also the founder of the Edmonton Boilers. 1983 to1990 proved to be a difficult time for the Blues. During this period the team failed to make it to the second round of the playoffs. From 1990 to 1991 the St Louis Blues were second in the regular season but were defeated by Minnesota North Stars in the second round.
In 1995 Keenan became coach and general manager of the team. He made important changes acquiring Gretzky and the goaltender Grant Fuhr, a player from the Los Angeles Kings. The Blues had the best NHL regular season record from 1999 to 2000 though the Colorado Avalanche in the first round eliminated the team.
From 2005 to 2006 the season proved to be the St Louis Blues worst season in 27 years. It was the fourth time they missed the playoffs and as a result, the team became quite a bit less popular among fans. The number of fans gradually reduced from the normal 18,000 to about 12,000. In 2006 some important changes were made to the team and they acquired Jay McKee, Bill Guerin and Manny Legace. Doug Weight returned from the Dallas Stars.
The Blues look quite promising in the new season of 2006 playing in the Central Division. The match against Boston gathered more than 17,500 people. The tickets had been sold out long before the match. St. Louis Blues won that game.
It seems that in present time the St. Louis Blues are on the rise. The team is supported by a large number of fans that vigorously buy tickets for each of their games. To order St. Louis Blues tickets online, choose your seats and get your best tickets price here at Vividseats.com.
