On January 4, 2007, the St. Louis Blues set their new record of 6-1-3 in their last ten games, which became the best in the NHL. They also managed to tie an NHL record for going the most number of games without being scored on during the first period. The attendance of the team’s games increased from 8,000 at the start of the season to more than 15,000 during home games. It looks like hockey is back in St. Louis.

Some of the success can be attributed to the excellent play of young prospects like David Backes and Lee Stempniak.

On January 16, 2007, the St. Louis Blues beat the Anaheim Ducks 6-2. After the team blanked the San Jose Sharks on January 20, 2007, the Blues moved to 12-2-2 in since December 2006. Their record officially made them one the best teams in the NHL and put them eight points behind the eighth place Minnesota Wild.
