Currently, in the 2006-07 season, the Toronto Maple Leafs are led by such veteran players as Bryan McCabe, Mats Sundin, and Tomas Kaberle. The young talented players include Kyle Wellwood, Matt Stajan, and Alex Steen. The team signed some additional contract with Hal Gill (from the Boston Bruins), Pavel Kubina (from the Tampa Bay Lightning), and Michael Peca (from the Edmonton Oilers). These new recruits were signed to replace former Toronto Maple Leafs Eric Lindros, Tie Domi, and Ed Belfour. In June 2006, the Maple Leafs bought out the contract of Tie Domi and goaltender Ed Belfour. Both players became free agents, effectively finishing their tenures with the Maple Leafs.

Later, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed free agent defenseman Hal Gill and Pavel Kubina (from Tampa Bay Lightning) to long-term contracts and centre Michael Peca to a one-year $2.5 million contract.
