Canucks Hockey Update - Feb 07

In September 2006, the Philadelphia Flyers offered free agent Ryan Kesler a one-year $1.9 million deal, forcing the Vancouver Canucks to either match the proposal or lose the rights to Kesler, the Canucks' first-round draft pick in 2003. The proposal was considered high for a young player with rather low-stats, and Bobby Clarke expressed criticism for the move. The Vancouver Canucks accepted the offer on September 14, 2006. The proposal, which was made by Philadelphia was the first offer sheet extended to a restricted free agent since 1998, and the first one following the 2004-05 National Hockey League lockout.
