AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am

From 1967 Spyglass Hill was chosen instead of the Monterey Peninsula Country Club. In 1991 Cypress Point Club was denied the right to hold golf tournaments as it didnt admit women. It was replaced by Poppy Hills Golf Course, which became the permanent venue of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Apart from numerous notable golf professionals the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tournament has seen many famous golf fans, like Kevin Costner, Steve Young, Bill Murray, and Carson Daly. The tournament has had great success, despite some occasional rain falls that slow down the whole play. It was postponed only once though, in 1998. The equivalent golf event held in Europe is called the Dunhill Links Championship.

During its history the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am has changed its name four times. The original tournament name was the Bing Crosby Pro-Am; in 1953 it was renamed into the Bing Crosby Pro-Am Invitational. From 1956 till 1958 it was called the Bing Crosby National Pro-Am Golf Championship. From 1959 and the following twenty-seven years it was known to the public as Bing Crosby National Pro-Am. And finally in 1987 it was given the current name, the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament can boast of many splendid golf players. The first winners of the event were Sam Snead (thrice), Ed Oliver, John Dawson, and the well-known Lloyd Mangrum (twice). The fifties and sixties were marked by the prominent play of Jay Hebert, Billy Casper, Tony Lema, Bruce Crampton, Jack Nicklaus, George Archer. The seventies and eighties brought the next generation of star golfers, like Johnny Miller, Tom Watson, George Burns, John Cook, Tom Kite, Steve Jones, and Mark OMeara, to name but a few. The end of the 20th century saw the wonderful play of Brett Olge, Peter Jacobsen, Phil Mickelson, and Payne Stewart. At the beginning of this century appeared such stars as Davis Love III, Matt Gogel, Vijay Singh, Arron Oberholser, and the incomparable Tiger Woods.
