The Frys.com Open (also called the Las Vegas Invitational) is a golf tournament scheduled on the PGA (the Professional Golf Association) Tour. The tournament is held annually in October in the flashing Las Vegas, Nevada State. The championship usually takes place at the TPC at Summerlin and the TPC at the Canyons.
In 2006, the purse constituted four million US dollars, with 720 thousand going to the winner of the Frys.com Open. The first championship was held in 1983. It was the first competition on the PGA schedule, where Tiger Woods recorded his PGA first victory (in 1996).
Founded in 1983 as the Panasonic Las Vegas Pro Celebrity Classic, the tournament has changed its name six times. In 1984, it was renamed into the Panasonic Las Vegas Invitational, and five years later, it changed its name to the Las Vegas Invitational. Due to the appearance of the new tournament sponsor, it was named the Invensys Classic at Las Vegas, and in 2004 the Michelin Championship at Las Vegas. Only since 2006, the championship gained its current name the Frys.com Open.
The most recent 2006 Frys.com Open winner is Troy Matteson. In fact, it was his first win on the PGA Tour, though he won the National Tour twice. At the age of 24 years old, in 2002, he became the winner of the NCAA Division I Mens Golf Championship.
