The most recent winner of the championship (in 2006) is Stuart Appleby, who was born on May 1, 1971 in Cohuna, Victoria, Australia. The son of a dairy farmer in northern Victoria, Stuart used to practice golf by hitting balls on the outdoor run near the house. Appleby became a professional golf player in 1992 and started his golf career on the PGA Tour of Australasia. In 1995, he became a two-time winner of the Nike Tour, which is now known as the Nationwide Tour. The first wife of the golf player, Renay, was murdered in a strange accident not far from a train station in London right after he had missed the cut at the Open Championship in 1998. Appleby married again in 2003 and became the father of a girl in January of 2005.
