After a 32-year hiatus and concerns about the courses length and difficulty, one of America’s most historic courses is set to host the 2013 U.S. Open. From June 13th-16th, Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania will be home to The Championship. It will mark the fifth Open stationed here, with the most recent in 1981, which was won by David Graham. The course has hosted more USGA championships than any other in the country, and the excitement of the return to Merion is at fever pitch. Last year’s champ, Webb Simpson, will look to repeat at Merion, where it took more than 10 years of preparation and plenty of successfully staged championships to convince the USGA that the layout would suffice. The 120-acre layout was deemed too small for a U.S. Open, but the USGA is confident the 6,800-yard Hugh Wilson-designed East Course will be a great challenge and pleasure for the best in Golf. The layout of the course is essentially the same layout that legends like Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, and Jack Nicklaus famously competed on, so competitors can look forward to the club's red wicker basket-topped pins and "white faces of Merion" sand hazards.
