About The Texas Open Championship

The event has been called the Texas Open most of the time. One could come across some similar name, but the essence of the game remained the same. From the foundation of the championship until 1940, it took place at Brackenridge Park Golf Course, except the years 1927-1928, when it was held at Willow Springs Golf Course. Later the event was transferred from Brackenridge Park GC to Willow Springs GC. From 1950 to 1994 the remarkable golf event was held in a variety of places, e.g. Brackenridge Park GC, Ft. Sam Houston Golf Course, Ft. Sam Houston GC, Oak Hills Country Club, Pecan Valley Golf Club, Woodlake Golf Club, and Oak Hills CC. And only since 1995, it has been held at the present place at La Cantera GC.

Eric Axley, the most recent Valero Texas Open Championship winner (2006), was born on April 22, 1974 in Athens, Tennessee. Axley is an American golf player, who became a real professional only in 1997. At the age of 32, Eric got the victory in Valero Texas on September 24, 2006, thus claiming his first PGA Tour victory.
