Standing as one of just four World Golf Championship events on the schedule, the WGC-Cadillac Championship was already one of the year’s most anticipated tournaments, but the excitement swirling around it has hit a new peak since Tiger Woods announced that he would participate in this year’s event. Miami’s Doral Golf Resort will serve as host for the 2013 WGC-Cadillac Championship, March 7-10, on the TPC Blue Monster Course, where Woods has already won six times. He also holds the tournament record to par (-25 in 2002) and aggregate (261 in 2006). Currently ranked second in the world, Woods won in his PGA Tour season debut at the Farmers Insurance Open, and a win at Doral could see him surpass No. 1 Rory McIlroy.
Last season, Woods had to withdraw from the tournament during the final round with discomfort in his Achilles tendon, so he’ll be looking to come back with a vengeance. Justin Rose emerged as the victor after taking the lead on the back nine, ultimately shooting 16-under and topping Bubba Watson by one stroke. This year, the tournament winner will take home an impressive $1,500,000, and the prize money is official money on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour.
