Kronk Boxing is a boxing gym that is situated in Detroit. The gym was operational from the basement of a recreation center that was located in Detroit. At the helm of the gym is Emanuel steward. It was started after the First World War but was closed in 2006. The popularity of the gym surged in the 1970s when some of the famous boxers like Hilmer Kentry and Thomas Hearns.
Kenty was declared the first champion of Kronk in 1980. Hearns followed suit and became the world champion after a few months. Some of the fighters who had trained in the gym won many international boxing titles. Milton McCroy, Jimmy Paul, Duane Thomas and Steve McCroy are some of the candidates who bagged wins in many competitions. The kronk was presided over by Prentiss Bryd in the 1980s. Richard Slone was the VP of the region during the times of Lennox Lewis.
In the 1990s kronk started another gym, its second outlet in Tucson. A group of fighters joined it including Jermain Taylor, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Naseem Hamed, Julio Cesar Chavez and Hector Camacho. In 1998 kronk stated the kronk gym website which featured details about the gym and the fighters. A campaign has been launched through the website called "save the kronk". This movement is being led by Emanuel Steward. This is targeted at stalling the closure of the facilities of the gym. In 2006 the kronk gym shut down for a temporary period due to theft in the gym.
