About the NCAA Basketball Tournament

The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Tournament was created in 1910 as an attempt to solve the problem of disorders in the sports sphere, which often led to even fatal ends. So in 1905 Theodore Roosevelt triggered the athletic reforms. As a result on the 28th of Dicember the Intercollegiate Athletic Association of the United States (IAAUS) was established. Then in 1906 the IAAUS was officially enacted.

In 1910 it was renamed into the NCAA. For about 15 years the NCAA was an association, that regulated sports rules and solved different problems, connected with athletic events. And only in 1921 the NCAA also became known as one of the major sports championships the first contest in track and fields took place. Then year after year other sports programs joined the NCAA.
