US Open 2007

Maria Sharapova and Roger Federer managed to get the 2007 US Open Series women’s and men’s titles this Sunday. Both tennis players, who are actually the defending US Open singles champions, are going to compete for the largest sum of money in the history of tennis. The payout is about $2.4 million at the 2007 US Open (the winner of the US Open gets $1.4 million and also a $1 million for the winner of the US Open and the US Open Series).

Roger Federer who is an actual World No. 1 won his first US Open Series title, when he defeated James Blake in the final of the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati, 6-1, 6-4. Roger Federer will make an attempt to do something that no man has ever dared to do at the US Open 2007. He wants to get four consecutive titles, back-to-back-to-back-to-back, at Wimbledon as well as at New York. In 2006 season Roger Federer was able to race away from Andy Roddick in a four-set final. Actually, Roddick is considered to be the last non-Swiss legend to gain the US Open title, when the tennis player had his coming out party in 2003.

Roger Federer is in top form at the moment, so taking him down seems to be almost impossible, even though he has lost in three North American Tennis Masters Series tournaments this year – to Novak Djokovic in Montreal and twice to Guillermo Canas.

Those who will get second and third place of the US Open Series will have an opportunity to compete for bonus sum of money at the US Open 2007. Second place US Open Series finishers can get the bonus of $500,000 in case they win the US Open. As for the third place US Open Series finishers, they can get an additional $250,000 bonus in case they become the winners of the US Open.
