History of the Toronto Rock
Toronto Rock is one of the lacrosse teams in the National Lacrosse League or the NLL that always make it to the playoffs. The team has an amazing 11-4 playoff games record. Toronto Rock's record of winning five championships in seven years has been referred to as a dynasty in NLL history.
The team was previously known as the Ontario Raiders. They were originally formed to be NLL's expansion team in Hamilton, Ontario that would begin to play in the 1998 season. During their first year, the team played home games at Hamilton's Copps Coliseum. At the end of the season, the team was sold to an investors' group led by Bill Watters, then assistant general manager of NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs. Before the beginning of the 1999 season, the team moved to Toronto and consequently changed its name to The Toronto Rock. For two seasons they played games at the Maple Leafs Garden, which used to be home to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Now, Toronto Rock plays their home games at Toronto's Air Canada Centre.
Toronto Rock has won the Championship Cup for the 1999 season. They also won the championship in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005. Toronto Rock defeated Albany Attack in 2002 and the Rochester Knighthawks in the 1999, 2000, and 2003 finals.
